Pro Patrimonio Foundation proposes the rehabilitation of George Enescu’s house and the creation of The George Enescu International Music Academy, an excellence center for the study of classical music with a focus on traditional architecture, crafts and visual arts.
George Enescu (1881 – 1955) is Romania’s best known and world renowned composer. His house in Mihaileni (Romania), where he worked and composed, was built by his mother’s parents. The building was constructed between 1775 and 1830 and it is an expression of the Romanian vernacular architecture of the first half of the 19th century.
The Academy will bring together the memorial components and the educational function, as it can accommodate two artistic residents while adjacent facilities will be able to host virtuoso students. In addition, a big part of the project will focus on the local community, engaging children from the area of Mihaileni. The academy will generate a cultural environment and quality education in an area that needs to be revitalized.
The priority now is to raise the funds needed for the restoration of the site, so every donation is much needed and appreciated.
